Amazon might be out, but Netflix is stepping on in, making Brooklyn its new home.
Last week, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the internet entertainment service is expanding its New York presence with a new production hub in the city.
The company, which has a long history of production in New York, including show favorites like “She's Gotta Have It” and “Orange is the New Black,” is building six sound stages and support spaces in the borough.
The space on Johnson Avenue is expected to house thousands of production jobs in the next five years.
"We need those jobs; those are the kind of jobs that the special training that some places require; they may be able to bring these people from the area into this industry, which is a good thing,”says Betty Cooney, of the Graham Avenue BID.
In addition to jobs, this expansion is also expected to bring up to $100 million in investments to the city.
