‘Like I'm in a river.’ Water line leak floods streets in Soundview

At the intersection of Westchester Avenue and Harrod Avenues, a leak in a water line at the intersection of Westchester and Harrod avenues sent water erupting out of the road, flooding nearby streets and forcing cars and walkers to trudge through the stream on Tuesday.

"Straight water," Soundview resident Roy Smith said. "Like I'm in a river."

Cars coming off the Bronx River Parkway were forced to go through the water, as well as pedestrians walking up the road. At times, the water level was ankle-deep.

"It's terrible,” said Dee Dee Tisdale, who was forced to walk through the water. “Look at my sneakers. Leaving footprints"

Citizen app video captured the water flowing on Monday night, but residents say it started earlier.

"It's been like that for a couple of days," Tisdale said.

News 12 asked the Department of Environmental Protection for clarification on when flooding began, but no timeline was given.

A spokesperson from the DEP tells News 12 that a leak was found and repairs are underway.
