A fire damaged the sanctuary of a Baptist church in Brownsville Monday afternoon just a day after major renovations were completed.
Pastor Gene McRae told News 12 that this past Sunday was the first time the Little Rock Baptist Church on Bristol Street held services in the church's newly renovated sanctuary.
Burchell Marcus says he was nearby when the fire started and rushed to the scene. He says the fire started on the outside of the church, and then spread inside to the sanctuary.
The pastor and other church members say that despite the fire, they will be back for church services on Sunday.
Fire officials are searching for what sparked the flames.
