Students and faculty took to the streets Wednesday to protest the decision by Long Island University Brooklyn to lock out professors on the first day of classes.
The union and university are at odds over a new contract. As a negotiation tactic, LIU locked out its faculty, and professors were not allowed to teach Wednesday or even have access to health care.
The students rallied in a show of solidarity with their professors.
Faculty members say they are being paid less than their colleagues at the LIU Post campus in Brookville, among other issues.
LIU says the new contract is more than fair. The two sides are expected to continue negotiations on Thursday.
