Fairfield officials have released a guide to living by the beach that they hope will help keep the peace between residents and off-campus college students.
The town worked with Fairfield University and the Fairfield Beach Residents Association on "Living at Fairfield Beach."
The guide lays out rights, responsibilities and rules for longtime residents as well as student renters.
First Selectwoman Brenda Kupchick says it will be useful to have all the answers in one place.
"You're living part in a residential neighborhood where people live in close proximity to each other, and everybody should be neighborly with each other. And there are rules in place -- you can't blast music after 11, you can't do certain things. But also, to give a sense to the full-time residents that anyone living there is allowed to have a get-together on a Sunday afternoon," said Kupchick.
Kupchick says Fairfield police get more calls to the beach than any other part of town, and not all of them have merit.
"Being kids? Hanging out on their back deck, talking and having a beer? Not illegal," said Kupchick.
Kupchick says that living document is available online and will be updated as needed.
