On Livingston Street, between Smith and Bond streets, bus services are now running on a two-way bus lane. The makeover was done to reduce the amount of traffic for busses in an effort to speed up bus commute times.
Council Member Lincoln Restler says the change impacts over 50,000 riders. Buses will now travel on the same side of the street, leaving space for only a one-way road for cars and other vehicles.
A divider was put in between the bus lanes and the one-way street protects the buses and offers a platform for riders to stand on. However, commuters say it could possibly put them in harm's way.
"It's dangerous. You see how they let you off in front of Macy's? You could get hit on either side," said Jacqueline, a frequent bus rider.
Council Member Restler says the median is meant to ensure the safety of travelers.
The routes impacted by this initiative include the B41, B45, B67 and the B103.
