One Brooklyn artist is paying a special tribute to fallen NYPD detectives Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos.
With his iPhone in one hand and his paint brush in the other, Kenny Altidor painted the images of the brave detectives who were both shot to death in Bed-Stuy nearly two weeks ago. Altidor is a professional painter, originally from Haiti.
Altidor has painted other fallen officers and dignitaries in the past, but he says this particular tragedy deeply affected him. He says he hopes his portraits of the fallen heroes can somehow help the city and the officers' families heal.
Altidor presented the portrait of Detective Ramos at his funeral last weekend. He will be presenting his completed portrait of Detective Liu at his funeral on Sunday. He says he plans on giving both paintings as a gift to the officers' families.
A wake for Detective Liu will be held Saturday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Ralph Aievoli & Son Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at the same location Sunday morning.
