Students and faculty came together on Friday for the annual Hoops for Junior event at Dr. Richard Izquierdo Health and Science Charter School.
The school holds this event yearly to commemorate the life of Lesandro Junior Guzman Feliz, who was tragically killed in 2018. Junior was a sophomore at the charter school at the time, and his former teacher helps coordinate the event to keep his legacy going.
"Junior, we miss you, we love you, we wish you were still here,” said Mr. G, Junior’s former teacher. “As you can see, everybody is out here today to show the love for you and not only that, but last month was his birthday, so we're going to do something a little special for mom too."
Junior’s mother, Leandra, says every year this event helps to fill her heart with hope.
