Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint may go without holiday decorations this year, because local groups who usually spend time putting up the decorations allocated their time to different causes.
Bud Madden, of the Lions Club, says businesses on the street donate money for the holiday decorations and lights, but this year the club is focusing on other fundraisers to help people in the area. According to Madden, the North Brooklyn Development Corporation had agreed to raise money for the decorations and put them up, but for whatever reason, it didn?t.
Residents say the lights made the street festive and encouraged them to shop.
News 12 Brooklyn tried to reach the North Brooklyn Development Corporation to find out why it didn?t set up the decorations, but it has yet to return the call.
