Local leaders, activists rally against gun violence in Flatbush

Brooklyn activists, local clergy and elected officials took a stance against gun violence in Flatbush Sunday.
They met on the corner of Ocean and Parkside avenues, saying they are aware of the concerns of skyrocketing gun violence in communities in Brooklyn, and are working to get to the root cause of it.

During the “Occupy the Corner” rally, they called for more funding to youth and community organizations, and reminded the community of how much the violence affects young people and their families.

The group also marched to several sites where people have been shot recently, especially in Flatbush, to pay tribute to the victims of those shootings and their families.
Activists say many communities are living in fear, and that the shootings have a negative impact on community relations, mental health and public safety.
