The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Regional Administrator Lynne Patton and State Rep. Felix Ortiz toured the Red Hook Houses for a closer look at issues reported by residents.

The Red Hook Houses are the largest NYCHA development in Brooklyn.

After looking at the apartments, Patton said the conditions were unacceptable and unlawful.

Patton says that she, the NYCHA monitor, and the NYCHA chairman have been in talks about a potential plan that would bring them into compliance, but that plan is still in the works.

"Some people who might see the conditions of these apartments might say, 'Well, what is the city doing about it, what is the feds doing about it?' Well, the good news is we at the state level, we put $200 million to the development we're working close with HUD, we're working close with NYCHA and we want to make sure at the end of the day it's not about photo opportunity but it's about action, execution," says Assemblyman Felix Ortiz.

Patton says her goal is to bring as much attention to the NYCHA crisis as possible.
