Longtime fugitive Christopher Gonzalez has been sentenced to 20 years to life for murder.  

The sentencing comes almost 23 years after the killing of Bronx 19-year-old Dora Almontaser and 18 years after the killing of a 25-year-old Yonkers woman.

The case of Almontaser’s killing remained unsolved until 2017, when Gonzalez was apprehended by police in Florida. New DNA technology linked him to the Bronx teen’s murder as well as the 2005 killing.  

Dora Almontaser was found strangled with a telephone cord around her neck inside of her family’s Van Nest apartment. Investigators say that she was also sexually assaulted.  

Gonzalez pleaded guilty to murder in the second degree for both homicides.  

Gonzalez’s formal sentencing for the 2005 Yonkers murder will take place next month.
