Brooklyn students are showing off their art at the Barclays
Center today.
The theme around Sunday’s display is “Looking Back, Moving Forward.”
It is inspired by Brooklyn-born Jean-Michel
Basquiat, an artist known for channeling his creative genius and using art to
address social justice.
Brooklyn North Borough Art Director Joy Paces
says many of the students expressed their voice through their artwork.
Some students tell News 12 that they were inspired to create meaningful
and socially relevant pieces during a time when they were attending school
remotely.
The art initiative will expand to all New York City public schools beginning in
the fall.
The gallery at the Barclays Center is free and open to the public today and
Monday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
