Loud, disruptive noise in Hauppauge waking neighbors in the middle of the night

Residents who are complaining say the noise will temporarily go away after they call the town or the company they believe its coming from, but they say the sound always returns.

Kathy Tonry and other Hauppauge residents say they've listened to this noise for years.

"I can hear it over my TV, I can hear it over the sound machine in my room, it's just constant," said Tonry.

Day and night, residents say the noise is coming from the Long Island Innovation Park at Hauppauge.

Tonry says she hears it from her house a mile away.

"It's like a loud humming noise, like a plane," she said.

"It just sounds like large generator engines you know continuing to go on and off throughout the night," said Scott Munro, of Hauppauge.

Residents who are complaining say the noise will temporarily go away after they call the town or the company they believe its coming from, but they say the sound always returns.

"Definitely affects my sleep. I wake up and affects my daytime because I'm tired during the day from not sleeping," said Tonry.

Neighbors say they have heard noises from different buildings in the industrial park, but for the past year they believe the loudest sound is coming from "Contract Pharmacal Corp" at 160 Commercial Drive.

"Even just limit it to during the day. If they do it during the day it's fine but overnight it's unacceptable," said Tonry.

A spokesperson for Smithtown tells News 12 they investigated the noise complaint and issued Contract Pharmacal Corp. a summons for violating the town's noise ordinance.

News 12 is told the matter will go before a judge this spring.

News 12 reached out to the company for comment about the noise and has not heard back.
