Love was in the air in Times Square this Valentine's Day – and for a few special couples that meant marriage, vow renewal, and even surprise proposals!
The Love In Times Square event was put on by the Times Square Alliance and Minted Weddings. Though it's their first joint partnership between the organizations, Love in Times Square has been organized by the Times Square Alliance for the last 15 years.
“I might be biased, but Times Square is the heart of the city, so it's nice to think about celebrating love in Times Square in the heart of the city. It's a wonderful opportunity for people who have special moments or memories here whether they’re a New Yorker or from out of town,” said TJ Witham, VP Communications of Times Square Alliance.
The marriage of Kristen LaBoy and Jesus Torres was officiated by celebrity designer Christian Siriano. The couple said “I do” in a small ceremony in a place that’s special to the both of them.
“I have such a love for theater and my dad actually works here in Times Square, so our family’s pretty connected to the city. Also being born and raised a New Yorker it's just fitting, right?” said LaBoy.
“We’ve seen a trend in microweddings since the pandemic, and we really feel it's here to stay, so this is just another embodiment of that trend of couples being choiceful of who they celebrate with and focus on what matters,” explained Marissa Cedarleaf, GM of Weddings for Minted Weddings.
The couples married in Times Square on Valentine's Day were chosen out of hundreds who submitted their compelling stories to the Times Square Alliance.
