Loved ones of 27-year-old Keino Campbell embraced one another and lit candles in honor of him at a vigil Monday evening.
Police say Campbell was found unconscious inside a car with three gunshot wounds in what police sources believe may have been a road rage incident.
Loved ones say Campbell was a gentle giant. Campbell spent four years serving in the Navy, stationed in San Diego. His mother, Suzette Thomas, says he had his whole life ahead of him.
“Next month, he’d be back in school and then he wanted to open his own business," said Thomas.
Campbell's father, Conrick Campbell, says now his last name will end with him.
“He was born on my birthday. That’s my only son. I don’t have nobody left," said Campbell.
Police say they arrested 20-year-old Michael Aracena, who is now facing charges of murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.
Thomas says her pain is one many parents experience and shouldn't have to.
“Gun violence needs to stop my son wouldn't like it. And this is not what I. This is not how I expected my son to die," said Thomas.
