Tenants of a Sunset Park building are rallying because they say they are being pushed out by their landlord to make room for higher-income residents.
The tenants say their building owner, Jack Geula, is responsible for evicting dozens of low-income immigrants. The organization Neighbors Helping Neighbors helped organize the rally. They say more and more building owners are bullying their tenants out of their apartments so they can increase the rent.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors is trying to educate tenants about their rights in an effort to prevent evictions. The organization says if tenants know about housing laws, they can stop the pattern.
Guela?s attorney had no comment on behalf of his client.
