Memorial Day weekend is nearly here, marking the unofficial kick off to summer for New Yorkers!
Today is the grand opening of a brand-new go-kart attraction called Electric Eden Raceway at Luna Park in Coney Island.
The park held a ribbon-cutting and inaugural ride Friday morning. More than 100 people came out to be the first ones to give the ride a spin.
The project brings the first-ever electric-powered go-karts to New York City. Each lap is 900 feet long, offering riders an immersive experience as they are tasked with collecting coins and beating their opponents.
Luna Park is now open every day for the rest of the season. Admission is free while tickets for rides start at $4.
Along with the new ride, New York City beaches will officially reopen Saturday. For those eager to get in the waters, lifeguards will be on duty from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
