A new study from Lund University says there is a possible link between tattoos and malignant lymphoma.
This specific cancer derives from the lymphatic system, which combats germs and diseases.
Doctors recommend you check in with your primary care doctor at least once a year to detect any cancer at an early stage. News 12 spoke with Dr. Jared Jagdeo, associate professor of dermatology at SUNY Downstate, about what the next steps in this study are.
"So, what you do is you might enroll people who get tattoos in a database and then follow them throughout their lifetime to see if they actually have a higher rate of developing any type of cancer, including lymphoma, compared to the untattooed population," Jagdeo said.
As we head into the summer months, Jagdeo said people need to take extra precaution with going in the sun. That includes wearing sun protective clothing and using sunscreen.
