A block in Bedford-Stuyvesant is being recognized as the greenest street in the borough.
Macon Street between Ralph and Howard avenues beat out about 200 other streets in Brooklyn in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden's Greenest Block in Brooklyn Contest. It's the 20th year the garden has been holding the competition.
Macon Street has had beautification block parties to clean up the area, and even put plants on the sidewalks and lampposts. Each tree pit is maintained by a group of assigned residents who water it and remind neighborhood dog owners to clean up after their pets.
Organizers say the contest is held each year to promote city greening and community development.
