Macy’s is making major changes, and two Brooklyn locations are on the list of closures. The company announced it will be shutting down 66 stores nationwide, including its Downtown Brooklyn location and another in the borough.
The closures are part of Macy’s “Bold New Chapter” strategy, which aims to focus on the company’s strongest-performing stores and improve the shopping experience both in-store and online. Over the next three years, Macy’s plans to close 150 underperforming stores while investing in 350 of its best locations.
In a statement, Macy’s CEO Tony Spring said, “Closing any store is never easy, but we’re prioritizing investments in our go–forward stores, where customers are already responding positively to better product offerings and elevated service.”
These closures will impact employees and shoppers alike. Macy’s has also announced that going-out-of-business sales will begin soon at the affected locations.
