A new mural is just weeks from being completed in Brownsville.
The public art piece on Junius Street called "Making History" is bringing awareness to the prison system. It illustrates the causes and effects of incarceration.
The mural was put together by Groundswell, an organization dedicated to community public art. Professional artists like Estenban Del Valle also helped convey the message.
The organization hopes to raise awareness and personal accountability when it comes to being arrested. The mural includes symbols such as a stack of money, handcuffs, shackles and even a mirror at the end of the mural.
The mural will be dedicated to the Brownsville community on Aug. 28. There will be a ceremony honoring the achievements of the young men that helped create it.
