A man is dead after being shot in Tremont Tuesday, and police are now searching for the person responsible.

It happened just after 8 a.m. on Anthony Avenue near east 176th Street. Police confirm a 32-year-old man was shot in the back. He was rushed to the hospital but didn’t survive.

A lot of neighbors said the area is known for gun violence. One man who has lived in the area for over 40 years said this latest shooting is about the sixth one in the last several months.

"This area is drug infested, and a lot of people are getting shot for no reason," he said. "I don’t really know, but it’s not good."

The victim’s name isn't being released at this time. Police are asking anyone who knows what happened to give them a call.
