Police are investigating a suspicious death in Coney Island after they say a man was found dead in a bathtub and covered in chemicals.
Police responded to a 911 call at 2817 West 12th St. at around 8:45 a.m. Saturday. When they arrived, they found the 62-year-old victim unconscious and lying in an empty bathtub with chemicals on his chest and left foot.
The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead shortly after.
Police say the victim's 54-year-old brother, who lives in the same apartment, was inside at the time, and emotionally disturbed when they arrived. He was taken out of the apartment on a stretcher and sprayed down by a hazmat crew. The man was transported to Staten Island University Hospital for further treatment and evaluation.
Police are working to determine the victim's exact cause of death, and what role the chemicals may have played in it.
