Man who died in police custody inside Brooklyn court identified
Police released the identity of the man who died in police custody inside Kings County Criminal Court.
Christopher Nieves, 46, of Brooklyn, died around 10:15 p.m. Friday, authorities say.
The NYPD says Nieves was discovered unconscious and unresponsive in his holding cell after suffering a medical episode.
He was arrested for stealing food at a Whole Foods Market in Williamsburg on Thursday, according to police sources.
The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
