The pedestrian-activated stoplight at the intersection of Ocean Avenue and Oriental Boulevard is putting Manhattan Beach's observant Jewish community in a sticky situation.
Jews are forbidden from pushing any electricity on the Sabbath. Many from the Jewish community walk through the intersection to get to their synagogues, however.
The city's Department of Transportation say they haven't received any complaints about the crossing signal since it was installed seven years ago. A representative says the department is currently reevaluating the intersection to see if it meets the criteria for a traffic signal.
