The NYPD temporarily shut down Ralph Avenue between Avenue M and East 64th Street in Brooklyn Friday after two manhole explosions.
Residents along Ralph avenue woke up to loud explosions this morning after several manhole covers came flying off.
Con Ed workers cautiously approached the manholes to inspect them.
One of the covers flew off and straight up into a parked truck.
Con Ed says manhole explosions are often connected to extreme weather, usually from when the snow mixed with the salt used to keep ice off the streets gets into the electrical cables underground. In this case, the cause is unclear.
