Nearly seven months after the fatal November 2025 shooting of Bronx teenager Tyson “TJ” Harps, police arrested his alleged killer in Georgia, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney.

Makhai Johnson, 18, of Brooklyn, was arrested on May 27 in connection with the killing, according to the NYPD.

Johnson faces charges of murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

Harps, a 16-year-old linebacker for the Bronx Justice League football team, was shot and killed on the night of Nov. 1 outside a residential building on Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights.

Police found the teen with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The killing shocked family members, teammates and coaches, who remembered Harps as a talented athlete with a bright future.

In the weeks following his death, loved ones held vigils, memorial events and a tribute football game in his honor while urging anyone with information to come forward.

Investigators later released surveillance video of a suspect seen near the scene as they worked to identify the person responsible.
