Family and friends of 18-year-old Tanaya Copeland marched through the streets of East New York on Friday night to call for justice.
Copeland was fatally stabbed in May.
The march started at the home of 7-year-old P.J. Avitto. Avitto was in an elevator with his friend Mikayla Capers when they were both stabbed just days after Copeland. Avitto died from his injuries and Capers was recently released from the hospital.
Family and friends marched in Copeland and Avitto's honor down Stanley Avenue to the site where Tanaya was killed.
Investigators have said that they are looking at a possible connection between the double stabbing and Copeland's.
Daniel St. Hubert is the suspect in the double stabbing of the two children. Police say the investigation is still ongoing.
Family and friends say they are speaking out for change so that the mentally unstable won't be able to walk the streets so easily when they are released from prison.
Supporters say they have events planned in the future to continue to support justice for Copeland and to raise awareness for mental health patients that may be posing a risk to public safety.
