Marine Park is now home to eight new Pickleball courts thanks to the tireless efforts of the Marine Park Pickleball Association.

The courts have been open for a few months, but Thursday was the official ribbon-cutting for the community. The new additions were installed by the city's Parks Department and took years of pushing and collaboration, but the group's persistence paid off.

Prior to their installation, players would have to carry the nets around themselves from park to park in Brooklyn playing at open tennis courts.

The sport is a cross between tennis, badminton and ping pong. Players say the sense of community in Brooklyn is what playing is all about.

The association invites anyone and everyone to join. The Marine Park Pickleball Association was founded in 2019 and now has more than 1,000 members. It hopes to get on even more courts in the future.
