Hundreds of Marine Park residents are rallying against a lithium-ion battery storage site set to open in their neighborhood in just a few days.

Lithium-ion batteries have been linked to multiple fires across Brooklyn in recent months, fueling fears among residents.

“I’m sure everyone can understand why it’s really scary and concerning,” one resident said.

The energy company NineDot is establishing the site on Flatbush Avenue, just feet away from some homes.

For residents like Segal and Joseph Youngstein, the plant's proximity is especially alarming.

“Our 9-month-old baby’s room is right behind it,” Segal Youngstein said.

“These things overheat and just explode, and then there’s a chemical fire that could spread across all of Marine Park,” Joseph Youngstein added. “We have to stop the situation right now.”

Assemblywoman Jaime Williams has proposed legislation requiring such facilities to be at least 250 feet away from residential areas.

“We are a community that is going to stick together and call you out because we pay our taxes and we are property owners,” Williams said.

NineDot previously told News 12 that it acquired the site in 2024 before discussing with the community about the project.

Residents say they will continue to protest the facility until their concerns are addressed and the plant is removed from their neighborhood.
