New York City Mayor Eric Adams now has another issue on his hands - public backlash for wearing a hat with both Mets and Yankees logos on it during Monday's New York City Columbus Day Parade.
Back in 2021, Adams told News 12's Kristie Reeter that his favorite sports team was "probably the New York Mets."
Some say the fact that he took a side makes the hat worse, because "he's kind of being a traitor to the team if he's rooting for the Yankees."
A pair of stores in the Bronx - Bronx Caps and Clothing in Pelham Parkway, and 4 U House of Fitted Caps in Allerton - say they used to have those hats in stock, but both sold out of them.
"We had like three different styles," said Ofari Ephriam, the store manager at 4 U House of Fitted Caps. "It sold out pretty quick, normally it's like a week or two, but this was like two-three days."
Ephraim says the people buying those hats were not tourists, but instead native New Yorkers who "root for team New York, and that's the hat they gravitate to. They would come and ask 'Oh, I want a Mets hat,' some would ask 'Oh, I want a Yankee hat,' then they say, 'Oh, you have both, oh give me that hat in particular.'"
Both stores say they are current working to get new shipments of the hats in.
