Mayor Eric Adams announced police officers at train stations will now work longer hours to combat the rise in subway crimes.

Authorities say 175 crimes took place in the Bronx within the first two months of the year. In Brooklyn, there have been 79 incidents, which is up 22% compared to this time in 2023.

To help prevent crimes, the mayor says the NYPD will be adjusting officer schedules to 12-hour tours.

In addition to this shift change, Mayor Adams says he’ll also be having a conversation with the transit authority and the governor about providing additional funding for the overtime that will be required for these officers.
