Mayor Eric Adams was in attendance at the Flight 587 memorial Sunday morning and spoke publicly for the first time since the FBI seized his electronics for an investigation into his 2021 campaign fundraising.
American Airlines Flight 587 broke apart and crashed in Rockaway, Queens just weeks after the Sept. 11 terror attacks occurred in New York.
All 260 passengers were killed in the incident. The annual memorial in Rockaway Park honors the memory of the victims.
"This is such a painful period, and I can reflect on the day when I saw the smoke coming from this area and watching what happened,” said Adams. “9/11 was fresh on our minds. So many things went through our heads --- hoping that this was not another level of devastation or terrorism..."
