Mayor caught up in marathon controversy
Throngs of Brooklyn residents are upset with Mayor Bloomberg's decision to support the New York City Marathon, especially as the region limps forward from Hurricane Sandy. Without electricity and running water, some people say the race comes too soon after such a massive tragedy. Even Sen. Eric Adams says the rising death toll should be reason enough not to divert valuable resources from those in need. However, Bloomberg insists that the race brings in more than $300 million for the city and that some runners have been training for months, even years. The New York Road Runners have already set up collections for clothes and money for storm victims.
