Mayor Bill de Blasio says New York City has hit a major milestone when it comes beating the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vaccination is the keyword, according to city and state officials. The mayor says the number of people vaccinated is why he says New York City now has the lowest positivity rate of COVID-19 in all of New York state. The city is seeing a rate of 1.2%, while the state is at 2.78%, according to de Blasio. However, he says there are still some areas where they're seeing lower vaccination rates.

In Canarsie, a little more than half of the population is fully vaccinated.

Right now, the lowest vaccination numbers are not only in Brooklyn but the entire city coming out of the zip code 11219, which is Borough Park in Brooklyn. The city is reporting that 43.79% of the population there is fully vaccinated.

The lowest numbers in the Bronx come out of the zip code 10466, which includes the Edenwald and Wakefield neighborhoods. According to the city's website, 52.97% of residents there are fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, Gov. Kathy Hochul says more than 100,000 vaccines were administered in 24 hours earlier this week. She says getting people vaccinated is key to beating the pandemic.
