City leaders are lending a hand to help with recovery efforts in the Dominican Republic.
Mayor Eric Adams, alongside members of his senior leadership team, including Department of Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez, traveled to Santo Domingo on Sunday.
More than 220 people died, and 189 were injured when the roof collapsed at Jet Set Nightclub in Santo Domingo on April 8.
"Whatever experience we can offer with our investigations from the Department of Buildings to the New York City Police Department or council advisors in these crises, we are willing to help and offer our support," said Mayor Adams.
Bronx Councilmember Rafael Salamanca Jr. is also on the trip. He toured the destruction site that was lined with hundreds of candles and photos of the victims.
"How can we help them with giving them emotional and mental support professionally, knowing that seeing those individuals that passed, seeing the individuals that have been dismembered it can affect you psychologically," said Councilmember Salamanca.
Mayor Adams and his delegation are expected to attend a mass in Santo Domingo Monday night and return to New York City on Tuesday.
