Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano gathered at Woodhull Hospital this evening to remember FDNY Lt. Richard Nappi, who died battling a fire at a Bushwick warehouse.
"He was an extraordinary firefighter and an extraordinary fire officer. He was a leader that people would follow," said Cassano.
Officials say Nappi, a 17-year-veteran of the FDNY, suffered an apparent heart attack. He was later pronounced dead.
