Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Wednesday that COVID-19 vaccines will be coming to New York City schools to get more kids vaccinated.

De Blasio says the city is outperforming the nation when it comes to vaccinating kids as young as 12, and now he wants to keep that momentum going by bringing the shot to where the kids are.

"Starting on Friday, in certain schools, we're going to pilot something very exciting. We're going to start launching in-school vaccination sites," de Blasio said. "This is something I think it's going to open up a world of possibilities. We're working with our Health Department, our Department of Education, with the UFT. We want to make schools a place for kids to get vaccinated."

De Blasio said the sites, which currently will only be for kids ages 12 to 17, will open in four schools in the Bronx first.

The plan is to expand the program to all five boroughs in the next few weeks.

And keeping with the idea bringing doses to kids, another family-friendly vaccination site opened Wednesday at the New York Aquarium.

New Yorkers who get their COVID-19 shot at the site will receive a free aquarium ticket for the day and another one for a second trip.

Similar sites have been set up at the Brooklyn Children's Museum, the Bronx Zoo and under the whale at the Museum of Natural History.
