Mayor Bill de Blasio held a news conference on Sunday asking New Yorkers to take the snowstorm seriously.
He canceled public schools on Monday and suspended alternate side parking rules.
He is also asking residents to stay off the roads on Monday. He says the snow will be heaviest in the overnight hours and that could linger into Monday morning’s commute.
De Blasio made an announcement at the Office of Emergency Management's headquarters in Brooklyn, saying New Yorkers can expect delays in public transportation. The mayor also said that this is the biggest snowfall the borough is expected to see so far this winter, and it makes it easier for DSNY and the Office of Emergency Management to do their work when the roads are clear from cars.
