As winter draws near, Brooklyn residents should ensure their car is well-prepared for the elements.
Nicholas Raneri, a mechanic with First Group Automatic, says residents should have a high-quality antifreeze, windshield wiper fluid and tires with good tread, wear and pressure.
Extras such as snow brushes, shovels, rock salt, blankets, first-aid kits and a jack should also be stored somewhere in your vehicle.
Once the snow begins to fall, Raneri recommends cleaning the entire car immediately, especially for the sake of other drivers on the road.
Even if there isn't that much snow this season, Raneri says it is still handy to carry antifreeze with you. He says that if antifreeze is not up to par, it will freeze the car's radiator and engine block, causing damage to the motor.
One last piece of advice Raneri gives to drivers is the importance of keeping the car on to warm the engine, as no one wants to discover their car won't start.
