Convicted sex offender Michael Mele was sentenced to 23 years behind bars for the 2008 death of an aspiring Brooklyn dancer.

Mele had pleaded guilty to manslaughter and tampering with evidence earlier this year after admitting that he suffocated 25-year-old Laura Garza in his apartment in 2008. He then dumped her body in a wooded area of Pennsylvania.

Garza's mother and brother cried as they told the judge today about how the murder has affected them.
