Parade-goers in Greenpoint are paying special tribute the country's fallen veterans during Memorial Day weekend.
Students from District 14 schools, Naval Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps cadets, veterans and other members of the armed services took part in the annual Greenpoint Memorial Veterans Parade.
The procession marched down Manhattan Avenue, stopping for a Mass at Saint Anthony's Church. The parade then headed back to the American Legion post on Leonard Street, where a ceremony capped off the event.
Some service members who participated say the holiday weekend is also a time to show gratitude to citizens who support their work.
The parade also honored the sacrifice of New York City first responders. The wives of slain NYPD detectives Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu were named grand marshals of the parade. The officers were shot and killed while on duty last December.
