The sidewalks of Mermaid Avenue will be looking much cleaner in a couple of weeks.
Trash that lines the streets will be gone, thanks to a new service from Council Member Justin Brannan. Brannan is launching a new trash cleanup program in partnership with the Alliance for Coney Island.
The local leader and alliance are working with the Association of Community Employment to clean up Stillwell Avenue to West 33rd Street. People will be seen sweeping the streets seven days a week in an effort to improve the quality of life for local residents.
“We think it’s a win-win,” said Brannan. “I think it’s important to because it builds pride in the community and I think that when you see other people cleaning up your street maybe it makes you think twice about littering."
The program is expected to start March 25.
