Mets fans are trying to keep hope alive as the Amazins prepare to play Kansas City in Game 3 of the World Series at Citi Field tonight.
The Mets must win the game to stay in contention for the championship title. The team lost the first two games to Kansas City on that team's turf.
Sports analysts say two things must happen in order for the Mets to win: The team's offense has to improve, as Lucas Duda made just two hits in the last game. Second, the Mets need a strong start from pitcher Noah Syndergaard.
The rookie Syndergaard, who has called Mets fans the greatest fans in baseball, says he doesn't plan to change his approach. "Obviously, we didn't plan this to happen, to be down 0-2, but coming back home is a big thing for us," he says.
Mayor Bill de Blasio, a passionate baseball fan, said Thursday that Mets fans should "take a chill pill" and believe in their team.
In 1986, the Mets came back from a two-game deficit to win the World Series.
With a one-sided game in the late innings, the television audience for Game 2 was up just 6 percent over last year. Kansas City's 7-1 win over the Mets was seen by 13.7 million viewers on Fox, up from 12.9 million for Kansas City's 7-2 victory over San Francisco in the second game of the 2014 World Series.
Game 3 starts at 8:07 p.m. It will be the first World Series game played at Citi Field.
