The site of a former Nathan's in Bay Ridge is set to become a middle school.
Nearly a month after the hot dog chain closed its doors, plans for the 20,000-square-foot area on 86th Street have been revealed.
Councilmember Justin Brannan was just one of the local leaders behind the decision, according to the Brooklyn Reporter.
"It's somewhat rare that we find plots of land this large where you can build a significantly sized public school," Brannan said.
The proposed school is expected to seat over 500 students, which Brannan says is important since there is a big issue with overcrowding in the district.
Even neighbors who used to frequent the old Nathan's agree that building a school is a great idea.
"I think that work really well rather than to have it be nothing and then it being vandalized," said Paul Furey-Lessen of Bensonhurst.
A timeframe for when the school will open has not yet been determined.
