A Midwood affordable housing building for senior citizens has received an overhaul that will keep it within the budget of its tenants.
Updates include facade repairs, new kitchen cabinets and sinks, among many others to the 181 units in the building.
Over the course of four decades, there was a lot of wear and tear on the building. A new, high-efficiency gas boiler was installed, which is expected to reduce usage by 19 percent.
Funds for the renovations were secured through HUD's rental assistance program, which keeps rent to no more than 30 percent of tenants' income while providing funding for renovations. Tenants tell News 12 the change is welcome.
HUD's program helped supply tenants with Section 8 vouchers, and the building's affordability is guaranteed.
