Mike Favetta
NY Emmy Award-winning Meteorologist Mike Favetta joined News 12 as Morning Weather Anchor in October of 2008.
A graduate of Kean University with a degree in meteorology, he interned at WABC during college and got his start at News 12 New Jersey after graduation. He began on-air as a meteorologist in April 2007 at News 12 Traffic and Weather.
Favetta also regularly filled-in at News 12 in Connecticut, Westchester, Long Island and New Jersey.
Over the past few years, many kids from dozens of schools across the borough have enjoyed Favetta’s Weatherkids presentation where he visits primary grades and demonstrates atmospheric phenomenons in an interactive setting that’s fun and easy to understand.
Favetta is a member of the American Meteorological Society which sealed him as a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist in 2010. Favetta is passionate about weather research and technology, and enjoys taking that information and presenting it in a way that makes for a more interesting weathercast. In 2015, Favetta won a New York Emmy for his weather contribution to the Brooklyn Midday Newscast after the February 14th snowstorm. He also has received 4 NY Emmy nominations in Weather Talent. Favetta displayed his creative ability to hundreds of meteorologists from across the country as the keynote speaker at the National Weather Association annual Broadcaster’s Conference. Favetta also has a minor in Italian studies, and reads, writes and speaks Italian fluently, having lived in Florence, Italy for a time in college.
