Residents living on East 52nd Street are taking matters into their own hands Monday by setting up an illegal roadblock after an accident involving a young boy.
The residents say since the roadblock was put up, their street has been quiet as it should be. The push to close the street to commercial traffic comes one day after a child was struck by a dollar van. The victims' father says the accident may have never happened if the street was turned into a cul-de-sac. The father says the boy is back and doing well.
A representative from the Department of Transportation (DOT) says it is aware of the issue and is in the middle of discussions with the Department of Sanitation and the Fire Department. If both departments sign off, the DOT will move forward with plans to close the street to traffic.
