The Mineola Fire Department's Engine Co. 3 honored 100 years of service on Monday.
The company said on
Facebook that the group was organized in 1922 and the original firehouse constructed by the founding members opened in 1923. It continues to serve as headquarters for the Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Before it was built, the firemen held their meetings in local public buildings or in member's homes and barns throughout the village. The only piece of firefighting equipment was a hose reel stored in a small building.
In March 1983, Engine Co. 3 dedicated its new quarters next door to the old firehouse.
